An FHE operation costs gas onchain to request it. The encrypted math itself runs offchain in the compute pipeline and costs no gas.

Gas per confidential transfer

Whole transactions on the reference FHERC20 token, with an encrypted input amount where the call takes one:

Gas per operation

The gas per operation reference lists the expected gas of every FHE.sol operation. Most operations take 40,000 to 55,000 gas as the first FHE call in a transaction, and about 20,000 less as a later call.

Performance benchmarks

The compute pipeline executes operations with TFHE-rs, Zama’s FHE library. For operation-level latency, use Zama’s published numbers: TFHE-rs benchmarks. Read them as the cost of the raw operation on reference hardware. End-to-end latency in CoFHE adds the steps around the operation: event pickup, validation, and commitment posting.
